Re: Was he Dennison or Johnson ?

Martin, The merchant records are definitely the son JFDJ. No harm in getting a second or even third opinion before ordering certificates, always handy having someone riding shotgun for you. Sometimes getting the wrong one can be just as helpful for elimination purposes, don't end up in the poorhouse...

Re: Was he Dennison or Johnson ?

Looking for Sarah/Lilly in 1911, the below is an inconclusive find, yet a possibility, going with the theory she might have started using her original name again. Initially the census form was filled incorrectly and has been altered, possibly the question misunderstood, this Sarah had been married a...

Re: Was he Dennison or Johnson ?

“He entertained them for hours on end with his great experiences up the Amazon after orchids and many other travels he had taken”. Great Scot – how could they have been taken in? Later “he liked to be the centre of attention”. There are at least 2 merchant records, John F Johnson, RMS Carmania, 190...

Re: Was he Dennison or Johnson ?

As far as the Burnley marriage goes, I haven't seen the marriage certificate, it is easy to track the couple after 1900 with the aid of the 1901/1911 census', children registrations at the GRO. It was the only John Johnson/Sarah Dennison marriage between 1870 and 1901. His father was Bolton Johnson,...

Erika,

Pick up some names from the Electoral Rolls, 1871, 1881, and search for those, should put you in the street.

Re: Was he Dennison or Johnson ?

I'm still rather puzzled why neither Lillian Johnson nor son John Johnson show up in any later censuses. He was very much alive in 1918, 1930 and 1939 (according to his military record which I have in full including demob addresses). He was using his full name JFDJ and giving a correct date of birt...

Re: Was he Dennison or Johnson ?

If we look at the Dennison family, Jonathan Dennison and Elizabeth Mary have done everything correctly, they have registered the births of all their children and baptised each of them. They all show on the census' together at sometime or another. It doesn't seem likely if they had a daughter Lilly/L...

Martin,

If what you have seen is from another persons tree, please check any information for Lillian scrupulously, do not accept without the data to prove exactly who she is.
