Re: VITAL SECURITY ALERT - My Heritage

I think a lot more people will have been compromised by it and haven't yet seen this post to find out. I was absolutely furious when I was alerted and feel well justified in my old original assessment of the site, if you have ever had any ransomware threats THIS is probably where they probably orig...

Re: Two baptisms within 6 months

Aha, just revisited the first baptismal record. On the right hand side of the page, are the letters PB. Private Baptism maybe? Second baptism was in a different church, suppose they may have moved house or just decided to go to another church. Both were C of E.

Re: Two baptisms within 6 months

Thanks Bert, my 'Dobson' was a rush job typo

Could well be her in the newspaper extract, unusual name. You comments about the baptism makes sense, and I remember a similar answer to a similar question. I must remember that for next time

Two baptisms within 6 months

Hi all, one of my Orrett relatives was born 23rd Dec 1880 and baptised 25th Dec at St Mary West Derby. There is also another baptism at St James West Derby on 1st May 1881. Child name, parents names, father's occupation all identical.I thought initially that the child, Annie Orrett Dobson may have d...

Re: Locating Post Office franchise

Thanks both for your response. He died in 1951 but I have no other timescale. The only other thing is that the person's surname who ran the Post office was called Perry. I have a number in my tree but none I can link to. He was working for a funeral parlour in the late 1930s in Eastham, so maybe it ...

Locating Post Office franchise

Hi all, My wife's aunt was mentioning that one of the elusive Smith family was related to someone who ran a Post Office in Parkgate. Are there any records available giving details of names and dates that they ran the Post office?
Thanks, John

Re: My Heritage - "A Scam"?

I have checked my emails before on this site but just re ran it and MyHeritage was on the list. Again, first I have heard of it. Time to change email and password. I don't update it anymore as I would need to pay a subscription, and having FMP and Ancestry already, cannot justify the cost to my wife...

Re: Thomas Orrett and Rose Ellen Hughes

John, Credit to Alex on this occasion. Alex, my sincere apologies, I was looking on my mobile phone and did not see your name as sending the response, so many thanks. The 1816 Mary in my tree is not the correct one either - she is in the 1841 census as single and living with parents. Ah well, may h...

Re: Thomas Orrett and Rose Ellen Hughes

Great work as ever Bert. I was ruminating about the Orrett link but you have found it! FMP has the marriage Banns for Thomas Crossley marrying Mary Orrett on 4th June 1834 at St Anne Richmond church, Liverpool. He was a servant, she a spinster. I have 2 possible Mary Orrett candidates in my tree, on...

Re: Thomas Orrett and Rose Ellen Hughes

https://i.imgur.com/VwRh3rq.jpg Doh, great work Bert as ever, I wondered why the death notice was in the name of Hughes! Looking a bit more, FMP has the copy marriage register with both parties being widowed at the time of that marriage. Thomas Hughes father was John Hughes, deceased and Rose's fat...

Thomas Orrett and Rose Ellen Hughes

Hi, I have renewed my subscription to FMP and have been browsing through the Newspapers section. There is a death Notice in the Liverpool Echo on 31st July 1929 reading: Hughes - July 28th suddenly at 45 Upper Stanhope street cottages, Thomas Orrett, the dearly beloved husband of Rose Ellen Hughes. ...

John,

I suspect there wasn't a wedding, widow hides possible embarrassment, no need to elaborate.
Fair comment Bert, thanks.

Re: Two Baptisms or different person?

Thnks both as ever for the help and clarifying. Not having the people she was with in the census returns made things a little harder. presume they may have been on the father's side rather than the Orretts. I did not see the 'P' for private baptism, but would not have picked up on that. Thanks for t...

Two Baptisms or different person?

I have found another family member to add to the growing tree. Orma Lillian Platt, MMN Orrett. I have a GRO record for August 1886, Orma Lillian Platt, MMN Orrett. I also have a Lancs OPC Baptism record for her, 25 Aug 1886 St Mary, Grassendale, Lancashire, England; Orma Lilian Platt - [Child] of Jo...

Re: Edward Harrison b 1813, Liverpool

Been looking for my "Manchester" ancestors and came across this Orrett bapt. in Ormskirk. Robert s/o John and Lynda Orrett Oct 26 1823 , born 5th October. Ormskirk a miller. Hope this is of use to Johnny O, but I would think he has it. Lynne Hi Lynne, thanks for that. I don't have that Orrett famil...

Thanks Lynne and Bert. Although I know Prescot is a few miles away from Walton, I was not sure if years ago they were classed in the same area. Thanks for putting me straight and for the links Bert. Back to the Harrison/Orrett puzzle :D

Re: Edward Harrison b 1813, Liverpool

Trying to track down the elusive Harrison/Orrett wedding. Thanks to Mary and Dobbin for the copy document. Shame no parents names. It is intriguing me now :) If I narrow it down, where was St Philip's church or parish? Since looking the other day, I have found many more Harrisons for my tree. My Orr...
