Re: Thomas Coghlan, 1780-1861

Would the Museum of Liverpool be interested, with that story?
Good sleuthing, Bert.

Re: Thomas Coghlan, 1780-1861

I lived in a flat at 23 Aigburth Drive years ago, but don’t recall any gravestone in the garden then!
Could you post the details from the stone as it is hard to read on the angle?

Re: Liverpool Register Office in 1912

Thanks for your interest.
The certificate was signed by Thomas F Littlar, Registrar [top line] and W H Bicknell, Supt Registrar [lower line]. The registration district was Liverpool, not West Derby.
I guess this makes it Brownlow Hill?

Liverpool Register Office in 1912

Relatives were married at Liverpool Register Office in 1912, but the recent copy certificate (which I have) does not show any address. Can anyone please oblige with an address? Was it Brougham Terrace, perhaps?

Re: Liverpool Pals Battalions memorial plaque

Thank you, Mary, for those links. The talk by K.O'R at the Heritage event should be relevant and interesting and I think she was present at the dedication. The photos by your friend are terrific and capture the whole event very well. He might even have got the top of my head twice, but luckily not i...

Re: Liverpool Pals Battalions memorial plaque

I should have included this in my earlier post:

The Liverpool Pals Memorial Fund has launched a website containing a great deal of information about those who served in these battalions: Liverpoolpals.com

Liverpool Pals Battalions memorial plaque

Yesterday, 8th September, a plaque was dedicated to the memory of the four Liverpool Pals Battalions: 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th Battalions of the King’s Liverpool Regiment. The ceremony was performed by the Right Honourable The Earl of Derby DL, whose grandfather was responsible for raising those Pa...

Re: Southport directory 1880-ish, look-up

Thanks to you both. What you tell me is probably enough. The birth was in October and perhaps the mother or couple took a late summer break.
I had wondered about a nursing home but it seems in error.

Southport directory 1880-ish, look-up

If anyone could look in a Southport directory dated around 1880, could they please see if there is anything about a house at 34 Alexandra Road. A relative was born there in October that year, but it was not the family residence.
Many thanks,

Re: Cressington Hotel 8 Aigburth Road

Blezard was a brewery company, which I think was taken over by Walker’s.

Re: Cressington Hotel 8 Aigburth Road

Johnny The cutting is not dated, but it was probably before Garston came into the city. An official licensing book dated 1909 tells us that the Cressington had a billiard room with two tables, 7 rooms for domestic purposes, and was owned by R. Cain, later Walker Cain. Sadly the name of the licensee ...

Re: Military medals.

The Atlantic and Pacific Stars might belong to a seafarer, and the Africa and Italy to a soldier, possibly in 8th Army. The 39-45 could be for either.
The George VI medal: more description needed.

Re: Forces records lookup

A word of caution about the IWM summary. The Brigade of Guards records are no longer held by the regiments, but are with the rest of the army. There may be other changes, too.

Re: !871 Census, Liverpool, Rodney Street

Thanks very much for your efforts. I have a sub on The Gen.. but find it almost impossible to find anything I want there, and am not renewing. I have used the page details, folio etc to contact Anc, asking for their version of the family entry, so hope to get a better result.

!871 Census, Liverpool, Rodney Street

I have had information on a Henry Thomas, shipbroker, 27 Rodney Street Liverpool and his family from the 1871 census via Ancestry, but now cannot find it again. The image on FMP is very obscure, but does give me the detail: RG10, piece 3783, fo 142, p.12. There should also be his wife Margaret, a co...
